Topic: the role of evidence in management research.
By De Kemcy. www.educationnigeria.org
Abstract:
While a number of
research studies have examined the factors determining the extent of use of
management research information by managers, there is only scant empirical
evidence on the link between management research activity and company
performance. Aims to examine the extent of usability of management research undertaken by
manufacturing firms as regards evidence-based approach in a variety of
industrial contexts and to explore its impact on competitive success. According
to the results obtained in the paper, and contrary to prior research, a direct
link can be detected between performance and (1)whether management research is
conducted/commissioned, (2)what information is collected, or (3)how it is
obtained, all in the light of evidence. It Discusses the
findings in the light
of previous evidence and theoretical speculation concerning the role of
evidence in management research as a determinant of company success, and makes
a number of suggestions for future research.

Evidence-based management: how to use research to make more
informed decisions
The simple idea that
evidence is, can and should be used to help practitioners make better decisions
is neither controversial nor complicated. However, like a lot of simple ideas,
when you dig a little deeper it turns out to be rather less straightforward.
What sorts of evidence do managers actually use? How reliable or accurate is
it? What else, apart from evidence, guides the decisions managers have to take?
Even where managers want to use evidence, does it exist and can they easily get
hold of it?
In this article
organisational psychologist Professor Rob Briner of Birkbeck College,
University of London, considers the relationship between evidence and
management and how the MBS Portal can facilitate evidence-based practice. I've never met a manager who doesn't make
decisions based on evidence. Whether it's about the best way to market a new
product, manage a difficult situation with a member of staff, ensure the
success of a merger, or maintain staff motivation during downsizing, managers
use information and evidence to help inform their decisions. In this respect,
managers are no different to practitioners in any field. From homeopaths t. . .
