2014 2nd semester GST 122 TERM PAPER - Science and Basic Technology; University of Uyo, Uyo.

Question 6:
Pervasive computing: a panacea for environmental degradation.

Abstract
Pervasive computing: a panacea for environmental degradation is a useful topic that has dominated national and international discussions for some time now. Anything that will solve all the problems of a particular situation is termed, panacea, while pervasive has to do with existing in all parts of a place or thing; spreading gradually to affect all parts of the place or thing. Going
by this, pervasive computing also known as ubiquitous computing is the result of computing technology at exponential speed - a trend towards all man-made and some natural products having hardware and software. In this paper however, we take an insight into how this Pervasive computing can serve as a panacea for environmental degradation.

Pervasive computing: a panacea for environmental degradation is one of great industry importance since everyone is involved and affected directly and otherwise. Indeed, Pervasive computing has gone beyond the realm of personal computers: it is the idea that almost any device, from clothing to tools, to
appliances, to cars, to homes and even to the human body can be embedded wit chips to connect the device to an infinite network of other devices. This has far reaching effects which looking at the goals of this technology and evaluating it in the context of this paper, would not only allow for wireless computing and artificial intelligence, but also help create an environment where connectivity of devices is embedded in such a way that the connectivity is not only unobtrusive and always available, but also helps foster environmental sustainability, thus curbing degradation. the domain of this work therefore centres on how Pervasive computing can serve a useful purpose in environmental regeneration and in this regard, a panacea for environmental degradation.
